After almost four years of running Suburbia Bar & Club in Hale, General Manager Tom Thornton-Brookes acquired the site for an undisclosed fee from the super group that is Living Ventures. Keen to continue and develop the brands success, July 2015 saw Suburbia’s second site come to Manchester City Centre.
“ Manchester has been crying out for a Suburbia” says Tom. “There’s a lot of great bars, but not too many places to finish your night….. This is a place I’d bring my wife, I’d bring my friends- the idea is to create an environment where the girls feel safe and can let their hair down and with that, the guys will follow”
The Suburbia concept is a simple one, great drinks, a dance floor with music that makes you want to dance and a crowd that is out to have a good time with no pretences or attitude.
The company itself is very much a family affair with Tom’s wife Sarha taking the role of Director of Sales & Marketing, Tom’s sister Olivia, Reservations Manager and Sarha’s sister Lucy taking on the task of overseeing the bar- all of which have made the move from Living Ventures to join the team.
“It wasn’t intentional” says Tom “however, when starting something new, you want your family around you and each person brings something different to the role. Lucy for example was one of the first girls in Living Ventures to achieve the Master Bartender- her drinks knowledge and passion for the bar is second to none- she is a real asset that I am lucky to have”
With this in mind, the next few years see’s Tom’s vision of a national roll out being put in to place- he already has his eye on a third location and won’t be stopping there. “My plan is to see the Suburbia brand grow to at least four or five along with a further new concept that I am keen to explore- the future is exciting.”
It certainly is.
